OPERA FUOCO/ APARTÉ
CD RELEASE

Berenice, che fai ?
Lea Desandre, mezzo-soprano
Adèle Charvet, mezzo- soprano
Natalie Perez, soprano
Chantal Santon, soprano

November 12, 2017 Salle Ravel Levallois

This concert celebrates Opera Fuoco's latest recording, featuring four members (former and current) of the Opera Fuoco studio, Lea Desandré, Natalie Perez, Chantal Santon and Adčle Charvet and the Opera Fuoco orchestra conducted by David Stern. Berenice is a compilation of late Baroque and early Classical works based principally on Metastasio’s famous 18th-century opera scene « Ah Berenice » from his opera Antigono. Not only was the scene set to music by such composers as Haydn and Hasse, but also by Antonio Maria Mazzoni and Marianna Martinez, a composer of Spanish descent who was widely connected to the Viennese music scene and, for a time, lived in the same noble house as Metastasio and Haydn at Grosse Michelstrasse. The young Mozart’s concert aria « Berenice » and Johann Christian Bach’s aria « Confusa, smarrita» from the composer’s  lost pasticcio opera, Berenice, as well as Hasse’s Antigono overture complement the program.

A NEW OPERA - OPERA FUOCO

Cosi Fancuilli

COSI FANCIULLI is a one-hour opera commissioned by Opera Fuoco, featuring a musical score by Nicolas Bacri and a libretto by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt. The production was staged by Jean-Yves Ruf and had its world premiere at the Theatre de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in May 2014 and twelve performances at the Theatre des Champs-Elysées in June 2014.

« A contemporary reverie »
- Jean-Yves Ruf
« A romanesque prelude to Cosi Fan Tutte »
- Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt

"Nicolas Bacri's music is charming, at first neoclassical à la Stravinsky, then evolving more toward Ravel and Poulenc or... Bacri. Engaging musical direction by David Stern and very good young singers...  Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt weaves a wise and very subtle libretto which completely reverses that of Mozart's and DaPonte's: here the victims are Alfonso and Despina, in love with each other... A modest and inspired staging by Jean-Yves Ruf... an attractive tapestry of love's ravages and false sentiments."

Tempêtes et Tremblements
à la Cité de la Musique

Johann Sebastian Bach - Cantata BWV 46
Georg Philipp Telemann - Die Donnerode

«When the Cité de la Musique invited me to perform Die Donnerode with Opera Fuoco, we agreed that the work should be experienced in a more contemporary context. The conceptual artist, Daniel Buren, a great Telemann enthusiast, agreed to create a visual support that would not be a mere accompaniment to the music but rather an abstraction in color. I believe that this collaboration allows us to experience more deeply the strength and palette of Telemann’s score.»

NEW RELEASE - OPERA FUOCO

French Romantic Cantatas

Karine Deshayes joins an impressive list of vocal artists with whom David Stern and Opera Fuoco have performed and recorded. The French Romantic Cantatas represents a sampling of Cherubini and his contemporaries with excerpts form Cherubini's Medée and Circé and cantatas by Hérold, Catel and Boisselot. These cantatas are highly dramatic works in the styles of bel canto and magnificently orchestrated precursors to the lyric works of Berlioz. The romantic, mythological theme of the femme abandonnée unites all five works on this new disc. The French Romantic Cantatas is Opera Fuoco's fourth disc, following Johann Christian Bach's opera, Zanaida, released in 2012.
