To end the European tour of Mayr’s Amor Conjugale, David Stern will conduct a concert performance in Bergamo’s Teatro Sociale. This re-premiere in Italy will be an important tribute to Mayr, who was Bergamo’s local musician and Donizetti’s teacher.
If Verdi had spent too many summers sipping rosé wine on the French riviera he might very well had composed Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette. Quintessentially gallic, this work weaves beautifully melodies into the infamous tale and evokes the melancholy aspects of the story more than the heroic.
Ariodante is one of Handel’s most intriguing operas, this time with the talented singers of the Curtis Institute’s opera division – a dramma per musica staged by Omer ben Seadia and featuring Philadelphia’s Tempesta di Mare.
