Opera Fuoco’s production of the Marriage of Figaro was conceived and imagined within the context of the pandemic. Between the first two lockdowns, the singers of the young artist program recorded the audio accompanied by only a piano and a guitar, and then performed for the camera as the production was filmed by videographer Alexandre Camerlo. The result, “Figaro in the City” became a tele-series in two seasons and fourteen episodes, which can be viewed on the website Marquee.TV. Today, as we envisagea period of reopening, we celebrate our chance to perform live, but we retain the intimacy of the model we had created. This performance is stage directed by Alexandre Camerlo, and the chamber-music nature of the score will be reflected by the reduced orchestra. This approach allows the young singers to explore deeper their roles, while the instrumentalists react and complement the musical dialogue. Mozart and Da Ponte’s masterpiece is presented here in a unique form, but one that allows the brilliance of the work to inspire
